In March 2025, the SiC source material team in Bitterfeld successfully concluded the regulatory approval procedure with the authorities of Saxony-Anhalt for its next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) source material production facility.
This key milestone marks a major step forward in Zadient’s commitment to environmentally responsible and resource-efficient industrial production. At the heart of the approved project is a fully integrated, closed-loop recycling concept for chlorosilanes and vent gases, enabling a more sustainable SiC production process. The process design achieves a waste reduction rate of over 99%, minimizes water consumption, and ensures highly energy-efficient operations across the full production chain.
The new facility is the first of its kind globally, setting a new standard for industrial circularity in semiconductor materials. Designed for scalability, it is built to support a significant share of the global demand for high purity SiC source materials. The production capacity is specifically tailored to meet the growing needs of the power electronics and optical industries — where material purity, consistency, and quality are critical to device performance.
“This achievement is the result of an outstanding team effort,” says Kagan Ceran, CEO of Zadient. “It’s not only a major regulatory success, but also a milestone in industrial innovation. What the exceptional Bitterfeld team is building here is globally unique — a closed-loop, high-purity SiC production process that will shape the future of sustainable semiconductor manufacturing.”
Jan Richter, CTO of Zadient, added: “The level of innovation in this capacity expansion is unprecedented. The team is setting new technical standards in SiC source material production — not just in terms of volume, but also through our integrated, resource-efficient process. This facility is a world-first in its technological field and positions Zadient at the forefront of the global SiC market.”
The successful conclusion of the approval process underlines the project’s technical and environmental viability and lays the foundation for the next growth phase of Zadient, in securing the global supply of ultra-high purity SiC source materials for demanding power and optical applications.
