In November, Nathalie Attar (Customer Relations Manager) and Dr. Jan Richter (CTO) represented Zadient Technologies at SEMICON Europe 2024 in Munich. The main focus of the visit was to meet with key players in the rapidly expanding silicon carbide (SiC) industry. The focus was on introducing Zadient’s new high purity SiC source material, designed to enable the growth of transparent SiC wafers for advanced optical applications, including augmented reality (AR) glasses.

Transparent SiC wafers are gaining attention for their potential in AR technologies due to their superior optical transparency, high refractive index, and thermal stability. These properties make them ideal for high-definition displays in AR devices, offering users clearer and more immersive visual experiences. Recent advancements have demonstrated that SiC-based waveguides can support wider fields of view and enhanced image clarity, addressing key challenges in AR display technology. The AR market is poised for significant growth, with major tech companies investing heavily in developing AR glasses. Meta Platforms, for instance, has been advancing its AR initiatives, aiming to introduce consumer-ready AR glasses in the coming years. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized the transformative potential of AR, referring to it as a “magnum opus” for the company.

During SEMICON Europe, Zadient’s independent supply capabilities and commitment to delivering large quantities of high-quality SiC source material resonated with potential partners. The company’s ability to meet the stringent quality standards required for optical applications, while maintaining cost competitiveness, positions it as a valuable collaborator in the market.

“Our engagements in Munich have been exceptionally promising,” said Dr. Jan Richter, CTO of Zadient Technologies. “The enthusiasm from industry leaders underscores the critical need for reliable, high-quality SiC materials to drive the next generation of AR technologies.”

Nathalie Attar, Head of Global Sales, added, “Building strong relationships with our partners is essential as we expand our global footprint. The high interest we’ve encountered here reflects the market’s readiness to embrace innovative solutions that enhance AR device performance.”
The meetings provided an important opportunity to share updates on material qualification progress, discuss logistics planning for volume production, and further align with customer requirements during the scale-up phase. Zadient continues to expand its global footprint and remains fully committed to supporting the needs of the fast-growing SiC device market with high-purity, monolithic SiC source materials.
