Zadient Technologies raises €35 million in a Series A equity funding to accelerate the production of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors in Europe.
The fund “Révolution Environnementale et Solidaire”, funded by Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale’s societal dividend and managed by Crédit Mutuel Impact, led this round alongside European Innovation Council Fund. Zadient’s historical shareholders also took part in this round.
Zadient Technologies is a French company developing an innovative process for the production of SiC that delivers both very low production costs and unprecedented very high purity. It operates at the beginning of the SiC semiconductor value chain, producing the source material from which SiC wafers and chips are fabricated. It also addresses yield improvements in large diameter wafer production which is presently a main constraint in the industry.
SiC is an absolute key material for the energy transition, supporting industries like electric vehicles, electric rail, wind turbines, solar panels, battery storage and aerospace. SiC chips are used in systems such as the inverters and chargers of electric vehicles where they enable dramatic improvements in range, charging time and charging efficiency, compared to silicon chips, generating massive CO2 savings.
Thanks to this Series A equity funding, Zadient is scaling up an existing plant located in Bitterfeld in Germany, that will enable to reach a production capacity of 350 tons/year of SiC source material as of 2026. As Zadient is fully committed to protecting the environment, a unique vent gas recovery system will be implemented to eliminate polluting discharges and achieve huge energy savings.
Through this investment, Zadient will also expand its R&D and pilot activities in innovative crystal growth and wafer production technologies. The goal of these technologies is to accelerate the penetration of silicon carbide into the semiconductor value chain and facilitate an efficient energy transition with maximum CO2 savings. It is also to explore new highly promising applications for SiC such as lenses for AR glasses and interposers for AI compute chips. Additionally, Zadient stands ready to play a prominent role in the provision of essential SiC materials to the European defense industry.
In April 2025, Zadient Technologies was selected for the inaugural European Innovation Council STEP Scale-Up funding program, as one of only seven companies chosen among hundreds of candidates as a leading growth-stage company in one of Europe’s critical technology sectors.
Since its founding in 2020, Zadient has also benefited from the strong support of Cristal Innov, a public-private R&D and innovation platform of the University Claude Bernard (UCBL)of Lyon located in the same building as Zadient, near Chambery.
